100-word misunderstanding

The following piece of microfiction made it to the top 64 in Writing Battle but then was knocked out of the finals. Enjoy.

Luke swaggered down the boulevard in his best suit jacket, bouquet of roses in hand. After dating online the entire first semester of college, he and his love were finally to meet face-to-face.

For some reason, she’d insisted he gain two hundred pounds, and he’d worked hard to do it. Mostly muscle, he liked to think, but the cookies would disagree.

He watched for Imogen, checking he remembered his wallet, as sweat rolled down his fat back.

“Luke? Is that you?”

He turned, surprised by her British accent.

“Did you bring the two hundred pounds? The restaurant is quite expensive.”
