Goodbye, Newsletter

Dear monthly author newsletter,

I regret to inform you that, after 57 issues, we must cut ties. It’s not you. Truthfully. It’s this economy. It simply costs too much to maintain you just for twenty percent of subscribers to open you and only a handful to click your links or engage in some way.

Oh, sure, we had great times. I looked forward to creating graphics and sharing stories and photos each month. I excitedly watched to see who would win the new “Find the Mistake” contest, or who might appreciate my book recommendations, or who might join one of the writing contests I share. But lately I’ve been looking at my bills. And it’s not pretty.

Not everything is about money, to be sure. If I am accepted into the doctoral program for which I’ve applied, I seriously doubt I’ll have any time at all for you. And I can’t rush it. What I put into you must be quality, so as not to sit in subscribers’ deleted mail folder unopened. Yet, that seems to be what has happened. Perhaps everyone is busy these days. And e-mail newsletters? Ain’t nobody got time for that.

So, my dear newsletter, this is it. I’ve canceled you. I doubt anyone will kick up a fuss. Just know that I appreciated you greatly. From now on, instead of intruding into folks’ in-box, I’ll return to adding content to my blog every now and again as time allows.

Sincerely,

Your lowly independent author
