Week 9 Diet Update

Every step is a step closer.

This Unsplash image is an actual picture of me trying to step more lightly on the scale.

Starting weight: 167
Current weight: 154.3 (Last week’s check-in weight was 156.1.)
Goal weight: 130

Exercise: I have decided it’s time to make an effort in this arena. I’m going to start actually using my Fitbit to count steps (rather than just as an alarm clock), and I’m going to post them here to add accountability. So first, here are my daily steps this week, without making any real effort to move:

Sunday: 1,834 steps, 4 zone minutes (yikes — super lazy day)
Monday: 5,508 steps, 32 zone minutes (this was a day off, but I did go walking with my mom)
Tuesday: 5,145 steps, 17 zone minutes
Wednesday: 5,289 steps, 9 zone minutes
Thursday: 1,110 steps, 0 zone minutes (I stayed in bed sick most of the day)
Friday: 6,841 steps, 13 zone minutes
Saturday: 2,116 steps, 0 zone minutes (it was a yucky day outside, so I did nothing)

Now, starting today, I will amp up my movement. (Or, I’ll at least try to. Sundays, y’all. It’s a day of rest.) And hopefully each day will show more steps taken.

The Food: Nutrisystem has what’s called Hearty Inspirations, which are special meals available on my plan. They’re larger than the regular meals and contain vegetables. My favorite is the red pepper and chicken pasta saute. And I recently enjoyed merlot beef with root vegetables. The thing about these larger meals is that there is enough for me to eat half for dinner and save the rest for lunch the next day. Doing that saves me calories and gives me something different than the usual NS melts for lunch.

My cat enjoyed my leftover broccoli and cheese stuffed chicken breast.

I think it may be helpful for me to share my calorie intake and what foods I’m eating on the program. Everyone is different, though, and your goals and plan may not line up with mine. Still, it’s important for me to share that the NuMi app has my daily calorie goal set at 1,448. That’s a lot, if you ask me, and I always try to come in well under that. In addition, because of my work schedule, I almost never have an afternoon snack during the week. But I do make sure I have my power fuels and smart carbs each day. Anyway, I want to hear from you. How much detail do you want to see about my daily consumption on the Nutrisystem program?

Cheats: There was a night this week that I was feeling run-down, feverish, headachy, and sore-throaty. So when my older son said he was going to Cold Stone to get ice cream, I, of course said, “I want the founder’s favorite with chocolate ice cream.” I didn’t bother adding that into my calorie count in the NuMi app.

Parting Words: We can’t be perfect eaters and exercisers every day, and that’s okay. One step at a time is all we can do. I’m still pleased with my results so far.
